The airport was big. Big queues, big trolleys, big voices.

Emily held on tight, one hand for Mama, one for Baba.

"There’s our plane," said Baba. "See? Past the windows."

Emily looked. It was the biggest thing she had ever seen.

Mama buckled Emily into the window seat. Baba held her other hand.

The plane raced down the runway.

Emily squeezed her eyes shut.

"It’s alright," Mama whispered. "Open them when you’re ready."

Emily pressed against the plane window in delighted wonder, looking out at a sea of soft white clouds glowing in afternoon sun.

Emily peeped one eye open. Then the other.

Below the window, clouds.

Soft white clouds, like a fluffy blanket, all the way down.

"Mama," she whispered, "we’re flying."
